Kansas State
Collin Klein is the best of the best right now and he seems like a much bigger lock to win the Heisman than some thought of Geno Smith two weeks ago.
The Mountaineers defense flat out stinks, and Kansas State may have one of the top 10 units in America. Throw in their balanced offensive attack with underrated stars such as Tyler Lockett, Chris Harper, John Hubert, and all of a sudden you may be looking at a team that play with nearly any team in the SEC.
They are still the least well-known team of this bunch, which will bring up questions as to how much longer they will remain flawless.
Oklahoma
Landry Jones is clicking on all cylinders and their running game with the ‘Belldozer’ towards the goal-line (Blake Bell) only adds another dimension.
The Sooners defense is every bit as good as the Wildcats, and their athleticism could lead them to the promise land if they catch a little help (K-State, ORE).
It all starts with a vital home game against those Golden Domers, which could skyrocket them in the BCS Standings.
Notre Dame
Speaking of the Irish, this squad continues to win at all costs. Their defense is relentless and while the schedule was originally thought to be mission impossible, it has died down a ton.
Boston College, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh are brutal teams, which really means their season comes down to their trip in Norman. Win that game and all of a sudden your officially title front-runners after Alabama, and the finale against USC would all of a sudden become a potential play-in game depending on how the Ducks finish.
While there is a ton of work to be done, the Domers have the goods to go a long way if they avoid any sort of a beatdown on national television.
USC
Everybody may be talking about the Ducks, but USC also controls their own destiny in the Pac-12 since they get to host Oregon on that heavyweight Saturday in two weeks (Bama-LSU).
At the very worst they should be playing in the Rose Bowl if they avoid an upset to Arizona or potentially Oregon State. Run the table and they would get a boost in all the polls, including the BCS computer’s which would cling on to them like gold.
Florida State
Everybody’s preseason darlings to dethrone the SEC at the beginning of the season took a turn for the worst when they lost to NC State. The computer’s have treated the ACC and specifically FSU as if they are a JV football team, yet the pollsters have fallen in love with them ranking them in the top 10.
Their ACC slate isn’t brutal but they would get the benefit by playing in an extra game in December and everybody loves extended football. Plus, they get to host the Gators at the end of the season which could shape up to be a game filled with BCS implications if both teams are ranked in the top two to five range (Oregon and Big 12 team too).
Oregon
Saving the best for last, the Ducks have the stars aligning for them!
Wait, aren’t they ranked fourth and won’t they drop to fifth if Notre Dame knocks off OU?
Yes, but if Oregon takes care of their own business they will remain No. 2 in all the polls, which will make a world of differences in the final BCS Standings.
Their skill players get all the credit deservedly so, but their defense could line up with any SEC squad just like they did with Auburn two seasons ago.
