Competition in SEC football is better than ever before with the addition of the Texas A&M Aggies and Missouri Tigers, but this weekend is all about two squads hosting premier and storied programs.
South Carolina and Georgia may be the favorites to represent the SEC East in Atlanta, but many believe the Gators are legitimate contenders to win the division. However, the Gators’ chances could get tossed out the window with a loss this Saturday.
Aggies newly hired head coach Kevin Sumlin brings in a spread offense with several playmakers all over the field against a Florida defense that remains one of the most complete units in the country.
When discussing the key matchup in this upcoming contest, many mention Florida’s D against Sumlin and A&M’s offense, but in reality this contest hinges much more on newly starting signal-caller Jeff Driskel and whether he can put together a solid performance against an Aggies defense that has been somewhat thrown to the curb.
Sean Porter played like an SEC linebacker and his teammates around him (DaMontre Moore, Dustin Harris, Steven Campbell) are fully capable of limiting this Gators offense.
Florida looked abysmal on offense last weekend, but look for Jeff Driskel to run the rock with authority on top of completing a few huge passes to open up the running game for Mike Gillislee.
Johnny Manziel will play just fine, but in crunch time he will play like a redshirt freshman by being unable to find Ryan Swope, Uzoma Nwachukwu or Christine Michael when it matters most.
