Entering its 19th consecutive season of coverage, the NFL on FOX crew welcomes three new faces to its deep roster of broadcast talent for the upcoming 2012 NFL regular season.
One of the most innovative play-callers in league history, Mike Martz is credited as the mastermind behind the Super Bowl XXXVI-champion St. Louis Rams’ “Greatest Show on Turf” and later coached the club from 2000 to 2005.
In addition, he has also worked as an assistant with the Washington Redskins (1997-98), Detroit Lions (2006-07), San Francisco 49ers (2008) and most recently the Chicago Bears (2010-11) through the conclusion of last season.
Since he spent entire his coaching career in the NFC, covering the conference in the broadcast booth this fall with play-by-play man Ron Pitts shouldn’t be too tough of a transition.
Another addition to the bottom of the FOX lineup is former NFL fullback Heath Evans, who replaces Chad Pennington alongside veteran Sam Rosen. Evans will make his first NFL on FOX appearance in Week 1 when the Arizona Cardinals host the Seattle Seahawks.
Selected in the third round (82nd overall) by the Seahawks out of Auburn in the 2001 NFL Draft, Evans, 33, spent his first four years in Seattle before taking his talents down to South Beach. He was shipped off to AFC East rival New England Patriots (2005-08) in the middle of the 2005 season, before finishing his playing days for the New Orleans Saints (2009-10).
During his three and a half seasons with the Patriots, the 6-0, 250-pound fullback also played for the 2007 Super Bowl squad that went undefeated in the regular season. Last but not least, there’s former ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews.
Along with hosting FOX COLLEGE SATURDAY (FOX’s college football pregame show), Andrews is also slated to join the network’s NFL coverage beginning Thanksgiving Day and continuing through FOX’s NFC playoff coverage.
“Andrews will work with the network’s top broadcast team—seven-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play announcer Joe Buck, NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman and top NFL sideline reporter and pregame contributor Pam Oliver,” per press release.
